NEW to do WHAT THE TRUCK FOOD TRUCK RALLY Move over, Food Truck Friday; street eats are now taking over Thursday nights, too. Charlotte's food truck scene is rapidly maturing lately, as dozens of roving culinary ambassadors routinely over-deliver on the promise of delectably different and economically accessible street food. Group a dozen or more trucks together at a grassy park- like venue, add music and a hip South End neighborhood location, and you've got the newly established What the Truck Thursday evening food truck rally, a family-friendly weekly event. "There's a lot of enthusiasm around food truck rallies around town," says Edwina Corprew, the rally's organizer and owner of Comfort Food on Wheels food truck. "When the beautiful site at the corner of Kee Court and Summit Avenue became available this spring, several of the area's top food truck vendors and I wanted to host a weekly rally that was fun for families, singles and couples alike. The grassy area is almost an acre and welcomes leashed pets, picnickers and folks who want to enjoy street food and music by DJ Krazy T in a fun, relaxed setting." Participating trucks include: Belly Backers, Comfort Food on Wheels, All Star Café, Now Toasted, Mel's BLT Kitchen, The Tin Kitchen, Two Chicks and a Truck, Maki Taco, 100 Main Beef & BBQ, Spoons BBQ, JJ's Red Hots, Roaming Fork, New Wrap Order, Cuzzo's Cuisine, Gold Fingers, Emergesweets, SnookaCakes and The Plated Palatte. The What the Truck food truck rally is held at 1508 Kee Ct. from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday. Rally admission is free. Most menu items range from $8 to $10. Join in on a special Friday evening tailgate on Aug. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., to celebrate the kickoff of the Carolina Panthers' first pre-season home game against the New England Patriots.
