You're still in Charlotte, and those three million pounds of sand in VBGB Beer Hall & Garden's SportsLink Sandbox are dedicated to volleyball. Throughout the week, the sand volleyball courts at the Sandbox are dedicated to league play through SportsLink. But on the weekends, the Sandbox is fair game for pickup play. Volleyball players of all skill levels can convene here for friendly matches and all-out battles. Gather a crew to form your own formidable force or simply show up by yourself to join a team of new friends. After the match, refuel with a frosty brew from one of VBGB's 30 drafts—pouring mostly local craft beer—and something tasty from the kitchen. Specialties include authentic German fare, bar bites and several healthier options. Then keep the friendly competition—and the weekend— going with a game of oversized Jenga or Connect Four on Charlotte's largest outdoor patio. The courts are available for pickup play on Fridays from 5 to10 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For Sunday times, please call ahead, as the schedule changes weekly.
