NEW to do ANDERS RUFF WORKSHOP By Michael J. Solender PHOTO BY GEOFFREY YANDLE LEAVE IT TO US TO FIND THE FRESHEST HAPPENINGS POPPING UP AROUND THE CITY, AND WE'LL LEAVE IT TO YOU TO ADD THEM TO YOUR MUST-TRY LIST. Love the idea of do-it-yourself home decor but unsure where or how to begin? Grab a friend and head to Anders Ruff Workshop in Pineville, which provides all of the materials, tools and expertise you need to create custom-designed home accent pieces worthy of being shown off. Launched earlier this year, Anders Ruff Workshop hosts intimate classes with hands-on instruction, guiding participants to create charming framed wood signs, canvas pillows, wall hangings, chalkboard art and an array of stunning custom accent pieces for the home. Classes are held at the intimate, lounge-style studio, where participants are encouraged to come with friends, bring their own beverages, spirits and snacks, and prepare to have a great time. "Our classes run from 90 minutes to three hours," says Maureen Anders, co-founder and co-owner of Anders Ruff Workshop. "We get lots of girlfriend groups, mothers and daughters, and even couples, as the opportunity to create something together is fun." Framed Wood Signs is one of the most popular workshops offered. Participants create popular kitchen, deck, bar, or other living area signs with their names and creative quotes or phrases. "Participants choose colors, frames and backgrounds to match their decor and provide us with their customizations in advance," says Anders. "We prepare the graphic design and create custom stencils. It really is fool-proof to create boutique-style accent pieces." A variety of workshops are offered weekly, with most classes in the early evenings beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday morning classes are also offered, often beginning at 11 a.m. Prices for workshops range from $40 to $65.50. Advanced registration is required. A special fall and holiday wood sign workshop is held every Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. in October, and Halloween and Christmas-themed projects are featured. The workshop price is $65.50. To create your next project at Anders Ruff Workshop, visit arworkshop.com • • • charlottesgotalot.com 65
