The food here is traditional, and beautifully so, with its unchanged spirit from the dishes that play homage to Ethiopian countries. Injera, an airy, crepe-thin and faintly sour bread, sets the stage for the utensil-free meal. Simply tear strips from the loaf, and use them to scoop up the entrees. Arranged as ensembles on a broad plate, you'll find minced lamb or beef, spiced potatoes, lentils and vegetables, with a little kick in every dish. This ethnic eatery rings in as an unsung hero in a city of culinary choirs. 6PM CHECKER'S GAME See the saves, breakaways and power plays of the Queen City's minor league hockey team, the Charlotte Checkers, one of the city's oldest sports franchises. Providing one of the most affordable sports experiences in the city, Bojangles' Coliseum, the team's skating grounds, hosts multiple themed nights throughout the season, including Alumni Night, Family Night, Locals Night and College Night ($1 beers draw crowds every time). The main concourse features five anchor food stands, which serve fried Twinkies, chips and French onion dip, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and more. And the exclusive Red Line Club, available with reservations, pays homage to the sport's Attend Checkers theme nights to score exclusive deals! PHOTO BY GREGG FORWERCK 30 WINTER 2018
