Glencairn Garden Put down the Ping-Pong paddle and take a stroll up Charlotte Avenue to Glencairn Garden, an 11- acre botanical garden nestled less than a mile from Main Street. What started as the small backyard garden of David and Hazel Bigger in 1928 is now home to year-round blooms, peaceful walking paths and a tiered water fountain. In 1928, the Biggers were gifted a few azaleas by a friend. By 1940, the private garden was said to contain more than 12,000 azaleas and camellias. David Bigger passed away in 1958, and his widow deeded Glencairn Garden to the City of Rock Hill. The Garden was the original inspiration for Rock Hill's annual Come-See-Me Festival, which has become a 10-day event held each spring at Glencairn Garden and other Rock Hill sites.
