NEW to do 8.2.0 By Joanne Spataro PHOTO BY POPROCK PHOTOGRAPHY LEAVE IT TO US TO FIND THE FRESHEST HAPPENINGS POPPING UP AROUND THE CITY, AND WE'LL LEAVE IT TO YOU TO ADD THEM TO YOUR MUST-TRY LIST. If your crew is craving a new and unique, all-in-one hangout spot, you've met your match in 8.2.0. Owners Tom and Kara Taddeo have created a second engagingly interactive space next door to their first creation, VBGB Beer Hall & Garden. A departure from the open-air feel of VBGB, 8.2.0 is sectioned off with soundproof walls that allow guests to immerse themselves in each room before entering the next. The full experience at 8.2.0, which opened this past August, delivers a sophisticated night out with a special nod to your inner child. A main area with two full-service bars features the spiked little sister of bubble tea—the Bursting Boboa Cocktail—high-end liquor, wine, cold brew coffee and beer. Liquid courage may lead guests to the glitzy in-house karaoke lounge. Local Charlotte actors host the lounge on a professionally lit stage, while friends can cheer you on from the elevated booth seating. You can even create a special on-stage ensemble using the prop box of wigs and glasses. In the arcade, you'll find 1980s pinball machines and old- school games, like Skee Ball, Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga—all of which beg you to relive your key childhood moments. Then, sneak into a secret room called The Library, where a vintage record player pipes out throwback tunes. To cap off your evening, grab a steaming slice from The Eatery's walk-up pizza window (yes, you read that correctly). Choose from four varieties by the slice or opt for a whole pie. Guilt-free options include cauliflower-based crusts. The Eatery's specialized menu also showcases meatballs drizzled in flavorful sauces, lightly breaded and fried cauliflower creations for vegetarians, and thick-cut fries (pommes frites) that demand to be dunked in one of more than 20 different delicious dips. Guests can rent private event space to throw their own parties; more than 4,000 square feet can be divided into three different spaces depending upon the size of your soiree.
