ART SMART by Jared Misner Hidden in plain sight, right smack dab in the middle of a gallery on Tryon Street is an enormous wall-size painting of a house cat. With yellow-green eyes and tail mid-flirt, the painting is part of the small but visually stunning Sonia and Isaac Luski Gallery inside the first floor of Foundation for the Carolinas building. The gallery, which is open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., has no admission price. It's the perfect gallery for passersby to pop in for a bit of culture on their lunch break. In addition to the feline art, the gallery features glass art by the renowned Dale Chihuly as well as paintings by Chuck Close and Herb Jackson. Sonia and Isaac Luski, the gallery's namesakes, emigrated from Cuba in the early 1960s with little else but two paintings. The pair donated most of the gallery's collection of paintings and glass masterpieces. The spacious gallery with wood flooring and front-facing windows, allowing the mid-day sun to shine through and reflect off the glass art, is sometimes host to marketplaces and events. It's time you met this small and remarkable gallery tucked away right before your eyes on Tryon Street. Sonia and Isaac Luski Gallery 18 NOVEMBER 2018
