Tell us about yourself. How did you get to where you are today? I moved here 13 years ago for a job in TV. I didn't know anyone; I was scared. I remember sitting in my little apartment off Independence Boulevard my first weekend here and thinking, "What have I gotten myself into?" In all honesty, moving to Charlotte was the best decision I've ever made. I've been blessed with so many amazing people in my life— friends I truly consider my family. More than three and a half years ago, I took another leap of faith, left my career in TV and took a job with Yelp. Turns out, I landed my dream job, and I love every moment of it. What's your favorite Charlotte meal? My meal would consist of a cocktail made by Bob Peters at The Ritz-Carlton (Charlotte), milk bread from Kindred (Restaurant), fiery mussels from Georges Brasserie, an empanada from Sabor (Latin Street Grill), any entree created by Chef Chris Coleman at Stoke (Charlotte) and a salted caramel brownie from Amélie's (French Bakery). I probably should throw in a side of bacon-wrapped jalapeños from Midwood Smokehouse as well. Hey, calories don't count in a fantasy meal, right? If you only had 10 words, how would you define Charlotte? A big city with a small-town feel and character. Describe your perfect day in the city. What would you do, see and experience? One of my favorite places in Charlotte is 7th Street Public Market. I could easily spend an entire day there. I would start a morning off at the market for a Not Just Coffee latte and breakfast from Local Loaf, head to the (U.S. National) Whitewater Center for an afternoon of sun and activities, grab dinner at Beef 'N Bottle and end it all with a drink on the rooftop of Fahrenheit. Why is Charlotte "home" for you? I moved around a lot as a child and was moved cross country as a teenager. For me, this is the first time I've felt grounded, like I could call a place home. My friends are here. My life is here. I just can't imagine going anywhere else right now. What is your favorite Queen City memory? The 2015-16 Carolina Panthers season and run was something special. That stadium is my happy place. Being there for the NFC Championship was a night I'll never forget. No one had more fun in football that year (well, until the Super Bowl) than the Panthers. Even if you are not a Panthers fan, you couldn't help but love that team. The excitement was infectious. Here's to hoping we can top that memory with another run and a Super Bowl win soon. • • • PHOTO BY POPROCK PHOTOGRAPHY NIKKI WOLFE YELP CHARLOTTE COMMUNITY & MARKETING DIRECTOR MY charlotte 44 JUNE 2017
