PARTING shot Let it Snow When Charlotte gets snowed in, everyone stocks up on milk and bread to replenish themselves for adventures ahead in our short-lived winter wonderland. Winter hours for Freedom Park start on Dec. 10 and end on Feb. 24. The park is open from sunrise to 9 p.m., so if snow is in the forecast, bundle up and explore this 98-acre park by foot or sled. Stroll along the trails and paths while hearing the satisfying crunch of packed snow under your boots. Look up at the ice clinging onto the bare oak trees like ornate sculptures. Walk up the bridge to peer into the cold 7-acre lake below. Take a long, meandering hike with a friend to the connecting Little Sugar Creek Greenway. You'll both marvel at the gentle snowbanks giving way to shrubs that appear to be dusted with powdered sugar. By Joanne Spataro 94 WINTER 2016
